Looking for info on Sarah and Louis Suckle by Victoria Ortiz (vikfam@myway.com) on 2003-10-06 12:07 p.m.

My grandfather and grandmother, Louis and Sarah Suckle, lived in Prescott from about 1905 (presumed date of their marriage) until perhaps 1930 or 1936, when they moved to Texarkana, Texas. My mother, Helen Beatrice (later Bobbye) Suckle (later Ortiz) was born in Memphis, although the family was living in Prescott. They went to Memphis because of the hospital there. I know they lived in a small house and my grandfather at least for the first few years ran a clothing store or haberdashery called The New York Store. They were Jewish. I am very curious to find out details of any kind.

Dear Barbara:

I am so sorry it has taken over a year to see your e-mail and respond. How interesting about the deeds. I know my grandfather did a lot of buy and selling of land. I believe that Suckles Lake was named after my grandfather, Louis Suckle, and his brother, Jacob Suckle. In 2003 I visited Prescott and met a 90+year old gentleman, Sam Dickinson, who had known my mother when she was a little girl. He told me that the Suckle brothers had originally owned the land where the lake is. I did not have the time to research the old land titles, so I am not certain about this.

If you want to pursue any of this with me, please feel free to e-mail me directly at:

dean.victoria.ortiz@gmail.com

All the best,

Victoria
