Obituary: ohn Morrison McLelland of Prescott, Arkansas, departed this earthly life on June 29, 2023, and went to be with the Lord. He was born on May 15, 1937, in Prescott, Arkansas. John lived his 86 years with a love for the Lord, family, and friends. He graduated from Prescott High School, attended Southern State University (now known as Southern Arkansas University, SAU), then transferred to Kansas State University where he was a member of the ACACIA fraternity and graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Feed Science and Technology. On August 16, 1959, he married his college sweetheart, Dawn Shannon and they were happily married for 48 years. John and Dawn moved to Arkansas where they taught school for one year. Then they moved to St Ansgar, Iowa, where he sold feed for two years and started a family. They moved back to Arkansas in 1962 where he built and operated commercial egg laying hen production houses (60,000 hens) until the mid-70s, raised Angus beef cattle, and cleared his river bottomland to begin row crop farming in the late 1960s and grew crops until 2004 (soybeans, rice and milo). John and his family received the “Golden Egg” award for commercial laying hen egg production, followed by being named “Nevada County Farm Family of the Year” in 1974. After the passing of Dawn, John married Julia Ingram on March 7, 2009. John and Julia spent many wonderful years together farming and playing with grandchildren and their great grandbaby. John enjoyed playing bridge, water skiing, outrunning his grandkids, challenging others to bend down on one leg and come back up without falling over, and eating ice cream. He always had a positive, upbeat outlook, strong Christian values, and integrity. He was a mentor to many. He was a life-long learner and enjoyed researching new technologies to improve his farming operations (center pivot irrigation, solar power operated water pumps for his cattle, rotational grazing, and hog traps). John was well-respected in the community. He served on the Board for the Nevada County Conservation District, Arkansas Association of Conservation Districts, and Nevada County Farm Bureau. John never fully retired and raised cattle until he became ill. John was a lifelong, active, serving member of First Baptist Church, where he taught the Pal Sunday School class, served as a Deacon, Chairman of the Deacons, and chaired many church committees over the years. John was preceded in death by his parents; Thais and Morrison McLelland, sisters and brothers-in-law; Patsy (Sam Rowe), Peggy (Doug Burley), and Emma Jean; and wife, Dawn Shannon McLelland. John is survived by his wife, Julia Ingram McLelland; children from his first marriage (Dawn), Jacqueline McLelland, Jane McLelland, Tracy McLelland, and Jennifer Henry; grandsons, Clay McLelland (wife, Hannah and great grandson, Steele), Brad McLelland, and Nicholas Henry; granddaughter Alyssa Henry; stepson from his second marriage (Julia), Dan Ingram, and step-grandson, Danny Ingram. The sons and grandsons will serve as pallbearers. Memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church in Prescott, Arkansas. Visitation will be from 5:00-7:00 pm on Tuesday, July 4, 2023, at Brazzel-Cornish Funeral Home in Prescott, Arkansas. The funeral service will be held on Wednesday, July 5, at 10:00 am at the First Baptist Church. Burial will follow at Liberty Cemetery in the Redland Community of Prescott, Arkansas.
