Dan Delahoyde

News was received here today of the death of Dan Delahoyde at his home in Brooklyn, New York on Sept 26. Mr. Delahoyde was born in Grinnell, Iowa July 27, 1867, and was 67 years old at the time of his death. For several years he has been associated with Hearst’s American newspapers. The Delahoyde’s moved to Prescott in 1881 from Iowa and Dan's father, John Delahoyde was interested in the publishing of the Prescott Dispatch with Capt. Ansley. For several years he was an attorney and abstractor, was land agent for the St. Louis Iron Mountain and Southern Railway Company and was an officer of the Prescott and Northwestern railroad. The elder Mr. Delahoyde died here in January 1896; his widow passed away a few years ago and her remains were interred here.

Dan Delahoyde worked on various Prescott newspapers in youth, acquiring and publishing the Nevada County Times from 1897 to 1899 when he sold it to Wilburn Haynie Mack and Alsey Jacob Hunter, which paper was finally merged with the Picayune. In 1898 Dan Delahoyde was recorder of Prescott and in 1898 and 1899 was a member of the town council, resigning that office when he left Prescott the latter part of 1899 and removed to Brooklyn where he made his home until his death. He was a lifelong Democrat and while here took an active part in local politics. He is survived by his widow, three brothers, Hugh and Ed of Iowa, and Will of Wyoming, and three sisters, Mrs. Mollie Leake and Mrs. Annette Johnson of Iowa and Mrs. Nettie Portis of Birmingham, Ala. He leaves a host of Prescott friends who mourn his passing.
