Samuel Bolivar Gee


SAMUEL BOLIVER GEE

was born June 22, 1842, in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, the son of John H. Gee and his wife, Rachel (Cobb) Gee. John H. Gee's parents were Jeremiah Gee and Mary (Young) Gee, natives of South Carolina. Rachel Cobb was the daughter of Wilson Cobb, son of Samuel Cobb.

Samuel B. Gee's father, John H, Gee, was both energetic and enterprising. He migrated with his family from Ala. to what is now Amity, Clark County Arkansas in 1859, He was enrolling officer for the Confederate Army at that place. He removed to what is now Nevada County in 1868 and to what is now Prescott in 1876, or about-the time the Cairo-Fulton Railroad was laid. John H. Gee participated in the activities which resulted in the organization of the city of Prescott. He was a planter and millwright but when he came to Prescott, he engaged (with his sons, William and Edwin) in the mercantile business. He died in 1880 and was the 2nd person to be buried in DeAnne Cemetery. His children, other than the subject of this sketch were: Henry (1837), Jeremiah (1838), James (1840), Isaiah EB. (1844), John A. (1847), Mary Grace (1848), William (1850), Edwin F. (1854), Emmaline H. (1856). Henry and Jeremiah were killed in the Civil War -- 2nd Battle of Manassas.

Samuel B, Gee was a soldier in the Confederate Army, enlisting from Clark County, Arkansas. He was in Company "F", Monroe's Regiment. Was later transferred to a Mississippi Regiment. His services to the CAUSE dated from 1862 to 1865 when he was honorably discharged. He fought in the battles of Mark's Mill, Poison Springs, Prairie DeAnne, Devil's Backbone, and others.

S.B. Gee was married Jan. 4, 1870, in Hempstead County, Ark., to Sarah Elizabeth Adams (1847~1933), daughter of William Adams (1825-Confederate soldier) and his wife, Mary Smythe Adams who were married Nov, 19, 1846 in New Brundridge, Ala. This Adams family moved early from Ala. to Falcon (now Nevada County) Arkansas.

Children of Samuel B. Gee and his wife, Sarah Elizabeth (Adams) Gee are: Ira, married Bessie Evans; Lee married Ruth Warren; Ida, married R. Brad Hamilton; Sam, married Grace Rogers; Ada married Dr. Wm W. Rice.

Grandchildren of Samuel B. and Sarah E. Gee are: Cecil Gee Elizabeth (Gee) Wirmish; Alvearne (Gee) Denman; Robert Lee Gee; Cleo (Gee) Hines; Ruth Ada Gee; Lula Beth (Gee) Allspaugh; Grace Annette Gee; Hazel (Hamilton) Dill; Arta Elizabeth Gee; Sam Clark Hamilton.

Samuel Boliver Gee died July 26, 1915, at Prescott, Ark.
