Obituary: Carl David Hurd, 77, of Prescott, passed away Monday October 11, 2021, peacefully at his home. Carl was born September 18, 1944, in West Union, Ohio, to Floyd Hurd and Audra Davidson Burns. He graduated from Lynchburg High School in Lynchburg, OH at the age of 16 and joined the United States Marines at age 18. Carl married the love of his life, Dew, in 1963. He received his Bachelor of Sacred Literature in 1978 from the Church of Christ 7th & Q Gering in Scottsbluff, Nebraska. Carl was a carpenter by trade and a Minister at heart. He was active form many years in Prison ministry, filling pulpits and sharing the Gospel of Christ wherever he went. He pastored the Church of Christ in Orange, TX, and the First Christian Church in Prescott, AR. Carl had a way with words. He loved to write Poetry. Many of his Poems were used in newsletter, bulletins, and he wrote others in their time of need. He is quoted “Different was always the word used to describe me when introducing me o speak! I’m different!” Carl had a great joy in his grandchildren. He installed a “joy bell” for all his grandchildren to ring as they came in to let him know they were joyful. Carl had a passion for gospel music. He insisted to be the first one to sing “Jesus Loves Me” to his grandchildren when they were born. Carl is preceded in death by his parents, a sister Rosemary Burns, and a great grandson Knoxton Smillie, stepfather Harold Burns. Left to cherish his memory, his wife of 58 years, Dew Hurd; children Carl Hurd (Melissa) of Prescott, AR, Daniel Hurd of Lakeland, FL, Mike Hurd (Nona) of Ashdown, AR., Buddy Hurd of Prescott, AR, Dawanna Bird (Todd) of Lakeland, FL, Barry Hurd (Amber) of Prescott, AR. Lisa Edwards (Nick) of Washington, IN, James Hurd (Casey) of Hope, AR., Jaynee Burke (Adam) of Bastrop, LA, Jenny Townsend (Chris) of West Monroe, LA; sister Judy Holbrook (Paul) of Hillsboro, OH; brother Wayne Burns (Karen) of Lee, FL; 60 grand and great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and a host of friends. Visitation will be 6-8pm Wednesday, October 13, 2021, at Herndon-Fuqua Funeral Home Prescott. Funeral services will be 10:00am October 14, 2021, at the Prescott Church of Christ. Interment will follow at Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Prescott, under the direction of Herndon-Fuqua Funeral Home of Prescott.
