JOSEPH KIRKPATRICK HAMTLTON

(An obituary) From "Prescott Daily News"

Oct 6, 1930 the funeral of Joseph Kirkpatrick Hamilton was held Sunday afternoon at 3:30 at the First Presbyterian Church with Rev. Harmon B. Ramsey conducting the services. Burial was in DeAnne Cemetery.

Mr. Hamilton died Saturday afternoon at 5 o'clock as the result of a paralytic stroke suffered Friday night. He was born in Sumner County, Tennessee near Gallatin, Oct. 23, 1849, and died in Prescott, Arkansas et. 4, 1930. He therefore lacked only 19 days being 81 years of age.

He was married to Dosha Worsham of near Hendersonville, Tenn. on March 28, 1883. Of this union, one daughter, Maud, was born. She married George Christopher in 1903, and died in 1909, leaving one son, George Christopher Jr. who is the only surviving descendent of the deceased.

Mr. Hamilton joined the Cumberland Presbyterian Church at Prescott, August 16, 1885, and was elected an elder in the church on Oct. 19, 1890. He was, at the time of his death, in point of service, the oldest elder*in the church. Until increasing age and deafness impaired his strength, he was always active in the affairs of the church. He entered into the active business affairs of the town more than fifty years ago and was active in business until within the last 3 or 4 years.

He was a modest man, never intruding his opinions on others. He was tenacious of his own opinions, but he always gave other people the right to think as they pleased.
