William C. Hatley


WILLIAM C. HATLEY was born December 13, 1830, and died in Prescott, Arkansas on Nov. 15, 1896. His first wife was Antonette Parr by whom he had Eugene; Mary (Mrs. Jerry Young); Eudora (Mrs. James T. Gossett); Zuma (Mrs. Will Conevy); Bynum (married Irene Battle); Jennie (Mrs. Bob Moore); Pearl (Mrs. J.B. Whitesides); Willie (Mrs. Ed White).

After the death of his first wife (March 1876), Mr. Hatley was married at the age of 46, by Rev. John Ware, a Cumberland Presbyterian minister, to Ann E. Christopher, age 33. This marriage occurred in Jackson Township, Nevada County on May 18, 1877.

Shortly after his second marriage, Mr. Hatley moved to Prescott where he engaged in the mercantile business - first called Hatley and Waller; later (1881) W.C. Hatley and Co.; and still later, Hatley and Christopher.

Children of his second marriage were Benjamin; Robert; Neal.

Mr. Hatley was nearly all his life a member of the Cumberland Presbyterian Church. He and his 2nd wife, and his daughter, Mary (Mollie), joined the church at Prescott on March 31, 1878. He was elected Elder of the church on May 6, 1878.

Ann E. (Christopher) Hatley died of influenza in 1918 at the home of her daughter, Neal, in Clovis, New Mexico.
