Sherrill, Kitchens and Smith families by d jack smith (wardaddy65@yahoo.com bounced) on 2004-04-03 3:02 a.m.

Like to learn as much as I can about my family history. Finess Ewing Sherrill and William Kitchens were Confederate soldiers from there and Daniel J. Smith was a Judge 1860-1862. Anyone have a Kitchens genealogy? Smith? I am Hilliard J. And "Donies" grandson and son of Dr. Doyle J Smith of Memphis. A Lloyd Baird sent my Dad a bundle of original Smith doicuments. Wonder where he got them? Some were 150 years old!! The Sherrill family was very, very prominent in the formation of Tennessee before my branch migrated to Falcon, Arkansas.

From; Doyle Smith So hello cousin Love Margarette

Hi Cuz! Know you are a cuz because of the way Margarette is spellrd. Yes, I attended the reunion. They missed a big chance to share our proud pioneer contributions to the founding of the Republic (Kings Mountain, etc) with our young. My father, Doyle, for example, never knew any of his heritage which I had not only to find but to prove to get into "First Families of Tennessee". It is quite a saga. Where do you live? Myrtle's daughter SHERRILL in Corpus Christi, Texas, has the Sherrill family Bible which proves all the links back to 1850. From there Mary Lajean Davis' marvelous 2 Volume work on the descendant's of Samuel Sherrill has the reat of it. Samuel fought at Kings Mountain.

            John Samuel Smith by D Jack Smith (wardaddy65@yahoo.com) on 2006-12-20 4:50 p.m.

I know a lot about John samuel Smith, but not what he did in the Civil War. How could he possibly have avoided Confederate service ? Yet, I cannot find him among any list of Confederates. Why don't you call me at 901-685-1586 and let's swap information. BIG, BIG question who was his great grandfather? I have his father and grandfather, but not great grandfather.

My father's mother was Maude Lily Kitchens by Phillips Monroe Bourns (phillipsbourns@hotmail.com bounced) on 2008-05-29 5:31 p.m.

Maude Lily Kitchens was the mother of my father Otis Theodore Bourns. She appears to have come from De Queen area in/near Sevier county. She married George Monroe Bourns from the same area around the turn of the 19th century. Believe were rural farmers, although all of Maude's & George's children became educators later in Texas, OK, Colorado and California and Little Rock area. I do not know that this line that intertwines with yours, and I do not have much detail - still looking! Check out Sevier county Kitchens.

My paternal grandmother was Maude Lily Kitchens; she married George Monroe Bourns. Both she and my grandfather were residents of DeQueen at the time of their marriage, and prior to that. My father was Otis Theodore Bourns of DeQueen. I know very little about the Kitchens line of my genealogy. Maude and George lived thereafter in Noble, OK, where they each died. They had five sons and two daughters born in Arkansas. If Maude Kitchens is any part of your line, we may have several things to share. E-mail me. I hope this helps. Phillips Monroe Bourns

I checked and saw her father was Henry H. Kichens from GA. Our Kitchens may have been from GA but I only have them for sure coming from Walker county, AL to MS then in 1858 to Atlanta, Columbia, Ar then after Civil War the wife and children moved to near Falcon, AR. I only know at this time that my William Kitchens born abt 1820 had a brother Samuel. William & Samuel married sisters daughters of Nicholas Iler Tucker we have found them in Walker County, AL also. We have hit a wall as to the parents of William and Samuel. Both brothers and their father in law show up in land records close to each other. Do you have any Tucker or Matlocks in your line? You also might check Walker county there were other Kitchens there I am not sure how they fit yet. Good hunting.
