Obituary: | The beautiful life of Ronald Gene Raney began on February 16, 1940. After a hard fought battle with cancer, he went home to be with his Heavenly Father on January 25, 2025. He was 84 years old. Born to Christine Berryhill and Medford Raney, he had a brother, Donald Max Raney, all who have preceded him in death. Ron lived most of his life in Camden, AR. He retired from the U.S. Postal Service, where he served as postal clerk for 35 years. His last years before retirement were served at the Cullendale Station. After retirement, Ron became an accomplished carpenter. He was a home builder, while also designing custom cabinets and fine furniture. His custom swing bed hanging on the family’s porch is definitely a favorite of family and friends. Ron was an avid outdoorsman. He loved fishing for crappie, bream, bass or whatever would bite his hook. A duck hunter in his younger years, he also loved hunting for deer and bow hunting for bear, as evidenced in the huge Canadian bear rug that lies on the floor of the family home, arriving much larger than anyone expected. It was a source of pride for Ron as he loved to show it off and tell the story to anyone that visited his and Joyce’s home. Ron was so proud of that bear! He was a member of the Cullendale Assembly of God Church, where he served in the position of trustee for many years. Ron loved the Lord and he was able to use his woodworking skills for furthering God’s Kingdom, making multiple trips to Haiti missions and assisting with the building of Frenchport Church, here in Camden. Ron is survived by his loving wife of 49 years, Joyce Raney; sister in law, Nicki Taylor (Donnell); brother in law Bill Cox (Ann); and sons, Steve Raney (Pam) from Cape Girardeau, Missouri, Rodney Raney (Kari) of Malvern, Ronnie Raney (Maria) and Marty Billingsley (Melissa) of Camden; and a daughter, Jo Shannon Barkley (Kevin) from Columbia City, Indiana; ten grandchildren, six great grandchildren and many nieces, nephews, and countless friends. Ron was known as a quiet and humble fellow. He was a loving husband, father, granddad, uncle and friend. His life was lived to the fullest and he leaves behind many wonderful memories for his family and friends to cherish. The funeral service will be held 2:00PM Wednesday, January 29, 2025 at Cullendale Assembly of God with burial in Bluff City Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 1:00PM to 2:00PM before the service on Wednesday. |
