Obituary: Larry Lemuel Arrington, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and respected member of the Stephens community, passed away peacefully at the age of 78. Born in Camden, Arkansas, on September 8, 1946, Larry was the son of the late H.L. and Clera Arrington. Larry spent his life building strong foundations—both in business and in the hearts of those who knew him. A graduate of Stephens High School, he was honored as one of the Most Outstanding Young Men of America in 1970, an early recognition of the leadership and character that would define his life. He was a former co-owner and executive of Elk Roofing Corporation, a renowned and respected business ultimately recognized throughout America as a premier manufacturer of high-quality roofing products. Elk Roofing earned national prominence and became known for its innovation, reliability, and industry excellence. Larry also retired as police chief of Stephens, Arkansas, a role in which he left a lasting mark on the community. Known affectionately as “Mr. Larry,” he led with compassion, fairness, and a sincere heart for the people he served. He embodied the principles of community policing long before the term was widely used and was deeply trusted and admired by all who knew him. Yet above all his roles in life—public servant, businessman, outdoorsman, and family man—Larry was a man of faith. A member of Jackson Street Church of Christ in Magnolia, Arkansas, he lived each day with eternity in mind. He followed the teachings of Jesus Christ with humility and sincerity, always striving to serve others and walk in truth. Larry believed that his true home was not here on earth, but in Heaven, and he looked forward with peace and assurance to that eternal promise. He was married for 59 years to his wife and best friend, Caroline Ann Arrington, with whom he shared a life full of love, laughter, and unwavering devotion. Together, they raised four children: Larry Arrington, Jr. and Jason Arrington, both of Stephens, Arkansas; Kevin (Kelly) Arrington of Smackover, Arkansas; and Amy (Jarret) Triplet of Magnolia, Arkansas. Larry was a proud grandfather to six grandchildren: Amber (Wesley) Carter, Claire (Tanner) Birchfield, Kaitlyn Arrington, Josh (Jessica) Arrington, Jordan Arrington, and Abby Triplet, and he delighted in his three great-grandchildren, Lauren Carter, Natalee Carter, and Anniston Carter, who brought him endless joy. He is preceded in death by his brother, Harry Arrington; his sister, Bonnie Henderson; and his grandson, Carson Arrington. A graveside service to celebrate Larry’s life will be held at Liberty Cemetery in Troy, Arkansas, officiated by Phil Rowan on Wednesday, June 4, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. Visitation will be Tuesday, June 3 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Lewis Funeral Home, Inc. in Magnolia, Arkansas. Pallbearers will be Tanner Burchfield, Josh Arrington, Jordan Arrington, Steve Thomas, and Wesley Carter. Honorary pallbearers will be deputies of the Ouachita County Sheriff's Department and the Stephens Police Department. Larry Arrington’s life was a reflection of quiet strength, unwavering faith, and deep love. He will be remembered for his gentle spirit, his devotion to family and community, and his steadfast belief in the promises of God. His legacy will live on in the lives he touched and, in the example, he set of what it means to walk in faith, love deeply, and live with purpose. Memorial donations may be made to the Liberty Cemetery Association.
