Obituary: Pastor Andy Clay Harris, 64, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on November 14, 2025, in Bossier City, LA after a valiant fight with Transverse Myelitis. Pastor Harris was born September 1, 1961, in Prescott, AR, and spent his childhood in Bossier City, LA, where he graduated from Bossier High School. He earned a B.S. degree in Pastoral Ministries & Evangelism from Southwestern Assemblies of God University in Waxahachie, TX. Post-graduate studies were done at Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, Fort Worth, TX. At the age of 19, he received a call from Pastor J. Don George inviting him to join the pastoral staff of Calvary Temple (now Calvary Church) in Irving, TX. He served first as Jr. High Pastor and later as Youth Pastor. On Oct. 17, 1981, Pastor Harris married the beautiful Miss Sheryl Thompson of Hurst, TX. She was a tremendous asset serving alongside him, and the youth group grew to more than 200 students. It was in the winter of 1985, that Andy and Sheryl moved to Baton Rouge, LA, where he served as Administrative Assistant to Jimmy Swaggart. He wrote the book “God’s Plan for the Ages, A Study of Bible Prophecy and Dispensational Truth,” and appeared regularly on the TV program, “A Study in the Word.” His other responsibilities included: overseeing national conferences, director of counseling, ministers’ correspondence, appeal letters, and press agent. The congregation of Kings Corner Church in Sarepta, LA, elected Andy as their Pastor in 1988. This is the oldest Assemblies of God church in the state. The congregation grew and prospered with many souls won to the Kingdom. A beautiful new worship center was built and dedicated to the glory of God. In March of 1991, Andy and Sheryl welcomed their first child Lauren Amanda Harris to the world. In 1996, Central Assembly of God in Haughton, LA, elected Andy as their Pastor with 39 members. In 1997, The Harrises welcomed a beautiful baby girl by the name of Andrea Claire Harris. Central experienced revival and grew until it was necessary to relocate and build a new worship center in 1999. Through outreach ministries and strategic use of the media, the church continued phenomenal growth, and after 7 years required another relocation and built a new worship center. Andy and Sheryl served a total of 22 years as Pastor of Central. It was through Pastor Harris’ vision that the largest cross in the Western hemisphere at the time was lifted up over the community, a beautiful 199-foot white cross standing on Red Chute Hill in Haughton, LA. Through the years, he also served as a sectional presbyter, executive presbyter, and general presbyter in the Assemblies of God, as well as a church planter. Over the past few years, health issues made it difficult for Pastor Andy to have a traditional ministry, but he ministered to thousands around the world on social media. Pastor Andy Harris was preceded in death by his father and mother James R. “Chubby” Sr. and Jamie Lucas Harris; grandparents; and sister Jana Harris Jones. Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 44 years Sheryl Thompson Harris; daughters Lauren Harris Jetton and Andrea Harris Stapleton and son-in-law Payton Neal Stapleton; granddaughters Eden Joylynn, Laurelyn Alice, Scarlet Victoria, and grandson Scotland Wallace; brother James R. “Jimmy” Harris Jr.; brothers-in-law Jack Jones and James Thompson (wife Miriam); numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces, great-nephews; and many loved ones and friends. A Celebration of Life service will be held in his honor on Saturday, November 22, 2025, at 10:00 am in the Hill Crest Memorial Chapel. The family will be receiving friends on Friday, November 21, 2025, from 5:00 to 7:00 pm in the Hill Crest Memorial Chapel. Graveside service will follow at Piney Grove Cemetery in Prescott, AR.
