Comments:Searching for last name Christopher, Porter, Arnold, Box and Allen in Nevada County. My GGG Grandparents were Ben and Patience Christopher. They worked and lived on the Robert Christopher Farm in Nevada County, not far from Chidester. There are still some Christophers in Rosston, Chidester, Magnolia and Camden. But they don't all know each other,but they are related. Perhaps there are people searching the Robert and Eliza Christopher family that I can speak with that might have family documents that reference any information on their African American Slaves/workers. A number of the African American Christophers and Boxes moved to the Rockford, IL area. There are many of them there today. On the Porter side, my GG Grandfather was Samuel (Sam) Porter. THe family changed it's last name from Alexander to Porter. And one son used the last name Arnold. Some of his children's names were Sam Jr., Clark and Isaiah. My G Grandfather, Isaiah Porter, was/is buried in the Pine Grove Cemetery. There is no tombstone or marker. He was buried their prior to 1944. I will work to get his information updated on the Cemetary Survey info on Nevada County.
